Statement by the Prime Minister

April 7, 1999
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his shock and sadness about the shootings at OC Transpo headquarters in Ottawa:

"All Canadians were stunned to learn about this senseless and horrible act. The reasons for what happened will alway defy our understanding. All that we know is that lives have been taken, families have been shattered and a peaceful workplace has been deeply shaken.

Aline joins me in offering our deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, and our heartfelt prayers that the injured and those who have been emotionally scarred will enjoy a full recovery."
