Prime Minister Announces Appointment of Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Mr. Larry Murray, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs, effective August 1, 1999. He succeeds Mr. David Nicholson who is retiring from the Public Service July 31, 1999.

Prior to assuming his current position as Associate Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Oceans in November 1997, Mr. Murray was a member of the Canadian Forces and was serving as Acting Chief of the Defence Staff.

The Prime Minister took this opportunity to thank Mr. Nicholson for his dedication and excellent service over the years as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs and President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and to wish him a rewarding retirement.
