Statement by the Prime Minister

August 11, 1999
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sorrow on learning of the death of John Tait, Senior Advisor to the Privy Council Office:

"I was very sad to learn that John Tait had succumbed to illness.

Mr. Tait was a distinguished public servant who provided the government with the highest-quality advice and counsel. His talent and dedication propelled him rapidly into the senior ranks of the government, earning the abiding respect of colleagues along the way. The integrity and professionalism he displayed throughout his 25-year career were in the finest traditions of the Public Service of Canada. And he will be greatly missed.

Aline joins me in offering our deepest condolences to his family, as well as to his friends and colleagues."
