Statement by the Prime Minister

September 6, 1999
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sadness on the news of the death of former Cabinet Minister Bryce Mackasey:

"Bryce Mackasey was a person of immense gifts: great intelligence, sharp wit and tremendous warmth. Above all, he was someone whose life experiences kept him in touch with the concerns and needs of the average working person. This mix of fine qualities amply equipped him to be a fine MP and an able Cabinet Minister. I considered it a privilege to work along side him in the House of Commons and in Cabinet. I will miss him.

Aline joins me in extending sincere condolences to his family and many friends."
