Statement by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sadness at the news of the deadly earthquake that struck Taiwan:
"All Canadians have been shocked by the scenes of devastation coming from Taiwan; of the desperate search for victims trapped in the rubble and of anxious loved ones waiting for news.
Our thoughts are with the people of Taiwan as they deal with this immense tragedy. And we keep a special place in our prayers for those who have had friends and family taken so suddenly."
