Prime Minister Announces Appointments to the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy

October 1, 1999
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Lise Brousseau, Florence Robart and Judy G. Williams as members of the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy. The Prime Minister also announced the reappointment of Michael Harcourt and Jean Bélanger, who were first appointed to the Round Table in 1996.

The Round Table was established as a multi-sectorial body which plays a role of catalyst in identifying, explaining and promoting, in all sectors of Canadian society and all regions of Canada, the principles and practices of sustainable development. It brings together distinguished Canadians from all sectors of society -- government, industry, labour, academia, environmental organizations and aboriginal groups -- dedicated to the promotion of sustainable development in Canada. As such, the Round Table is in a key position to influence and add value to ongoing efforts to meet the goal of sustainable development.
