Statement by the Prime Minister

January 19, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sadness on the news of the death of Joe Foti:

"To know Joe Foti was to like him. He was unforgettable. He was blessed with a tremendous zest for life, a great sense of humour and a wonderful winning way with people. He was also a pillar of the community, who possessed an extraordinary commitment to making life better for all of the people of Toronto. I had the pleasure of meeting Joe on many occasions. And I will miss him a lot.

Aline joins me in extending our deepest condolences to his wife, Elvira, his family and his many, many friends."
