STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

February 14, 2002
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien was saddened to learn of the death today of former Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta Horace A. (Bud) Olson:

"In all the years that I have know him, Bud Olson always showed himself to be a dedicated public servant of formidable style who had a true eye for what mattered to his fellow citizens.

Whether it be as a farmer, as an MP, as a Cabinet Minister, as a Senator or as Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, he dedicated himself fully to the betterment of Alberta and Canada as a whole. His stellar career in the service of our country is an example to all Canadians, and particularly to those who would aspire to public office. He will be greatly missed.

Aline joins me in offering, on behalf of all Canadians, our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Bud’s wife, Lucille, as well as his family and many friends."
