PRIME MINISTER NAMES
PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIES

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries to assist Ministers with their parliamentary and portfolio responsibilities.

"Our appointments as Parliamentary Secretaries reaffirm the outstanding depth of our government’s talent," said the Prime Minister. "They are men and women from all regions of Canada who bring a breadth of experience and perspective that is of tremendous importance as we plan and implement our agenda. I am delighted that such an outstanding group will be assisting the Ministry as we move ahead with our plans for building a prosperous and inclusive Canada in the 21st century. "

While some Parliamentary Secretaries have been reappointed, other members have been appointed for the the first time. The Prime Minister also expressed his thanks to the outgoing Parliamentary Secretaries for the quality of counsel and assistance they provided the Ministry during their tenure.

A list of Parliamentary Secretaries is attached. The appointments are effective today.
