PRIME MINISTER NAMES PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARIES

December 22, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries to assist Ministers with their parliamentary and portfolio responsibilities. In addressing the challenges before the Government, the Prime Minister has decided to rename Parliamentary Secretaries who remain members of the House to continue the assignments they began in September.

"Parliamentary Secretaries play a fundamental role in the ability of our government to fulfill its commitments," said the Prime Minister. "They bring from all regions of Canada a solid experience that will enable the government to work more efficiently by helping Ministers carrying out their parliamentary business as well as their relations with the public and interest groups."

A list of Parliamentary Secretaries is attached. The appointments are effective immediately.
