PRIME MINISTER’S CHIEF OF STAFF DENOUNCES
JOE CLARK’S ALLEGATION

February 13, 2001
Ottawa, Ontario

Jean Pelletier, Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, emphatically denied today the Right Honourable Joe Clark’s allegation that he recommended an executive search firm to staff at the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC):

"Mr. Clark is mistaken. I never spoke to anyone at the BDC about hiring an executive search firm. Mr. Clark has said his questions on the BDC represent a fishing expedition. As a former Prime Minister, I would expect him to ask questions based on fact, not innuendo and guesswork."

Decisions concerning the hiring of staff below the level of President at the BDC are the responsibility of the BDC itself.
