PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES VISIT OF
THE PRIME MINISTER OF LUXEMBOURG

September 24, 2001
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that the Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker will make an official visit to Canada from September 25 to 29, 2001.

"Canada enjoys excellent relations with Luxembourg," said the Prime Minister. "Prime Minister Juncker’s visit presents a welcome opportunity to further our co-operation on the international stage, develop our commercial relationship and deepen the ties of friendship between our countries."

During his visit, Prime Minister Juncker and his delegation will hold discussions with Prime Minister Chrétien on bilateral issues, including trade and investment, with a special focus on the exchange of knowledge in science and technology. While in Ottawa, Mr. Juncker will also meet with Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Stéphane Dion, Members of Parliament and Senators.

Prime Minister Juncker will also travel to Montreal and Toronto, where he will address members of the business and academic communities, and will meet with representatives of the Canada-Luxembourgeois community. In Granby, Quebec, he will attend the opening of a Luxembourg-owned copper foil plant, Circuit Foil America, which will employ about 150 people.
