September 10, 2001
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Mikuláš Dzurinda will make an official visit to Canada from September 11 to 13, 2001. This will be Mr. Dzurinda’s first official visit to Canada.

"Since being elected, Prime Minister Dzurinda’s government has affirmed its intention to forge closer ties with the international community," said the Prime Minister. "Prime Minister Dzurinda’s visit will allow us to discuss ways in which we can strengthen our bilateral cooperation."

During his visit, Mr. Dzurinda and some members of his delegation will hold discussions with the Prime Minister on bilateral issues, including trade and investment. Mr. Dzurinda will also meet with members of the Slovak and Canadian business communities in Ottawa and in Toronto.
