PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES VISIT OF
THE PRIME MINISTER OF SPAIN

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that the Prime Minister of Spain, José María Aznar will pay an official visit to Ottawa on May 29-30. This will be Prime Minister Aznar’s first visit to Canada.

"Canada is delighted with the continuous expansion of our relationship with Spain. The ties recently forged in the economic, cultural, academic and political spheres attest to our shared resolve to broaden and deepen our partnership," said the Prime Minister. "Prime Minister Aznar’s visit is an opportune time for us to make further progress in this regard."

During his visit, Prime Minister Aznar and his delegation will hold discussions with the Prime Minister on bilateral issues, including trade and investment. He will also meet with Governor General Adrienne Clarkson.
