PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES STAFF CHANGES

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the following changes to his staff:

Johanne Sénécal, becomes Special Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister, replacing Patrick Parisot. Ms. Sénécal is currently Executive Assistant to Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Stéphane Dion. Prior to that she served as Judicial Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Justice. Her appointment is effective March 26.

Patrick Parisot, who has served the Prime Minister with distinction since 1993 in senior communications and advisory capacities, will leave his post as Special Policy Advisor to join the Federal/Provincial/Territorial office at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade as Special Advisor. In order to ensure continuity during the transition period, Mr. Parisot will take up his new responsibilities on April 23.

David Miller joins the Prime Minister’s Office as Senior Advisor. Mr. Miller is currently Senior Vice President - Public Affairs for Hill & Knowlton Canada. Prior to joining Hill & Knowlton in 1991, Mr. Miller filled senior staff positions for a number of federal cabinet ministers. His appointment is effective April 2.

Raj Chahal returns to the Prime Minister’s Office as Special Policy Advisor. Mr. Chahal is currently Partner with the Calgary law firm of Kang Abrahams Chahal. Between 1994 and 1998, Mr. Chahal served the Prime Minister as Special Assistant - Western and Northern Canada. His appointment is effective April 16.
