PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES VISIT OF
BRITISH PRIME MINISTER TONY BLAIR

January 31, 2001
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that British Prime Minister Tony Blair will be making an official visit to Ottawa, February 21-22, 2001.

"Canada’s relations with the United Kingdom are vibrant and expanding, and Prime Minister Blair’s visit will give us the opportunity to share views on many bilateral and global issues", said the Prime Minister. "I look forward to discussing with him how we can further strengthen multinational institutions so they can better advance our shared goals of promoting democracy and human security."

The two Prime Ministers have met a number of times, most recently at the Millennium Summit in New York and at the G-8 Summit in Okinawa, Japan.

This will be Mr. Blair’s first official visit to Ottawa as Prime Minister.
