 Summit of the Americas 2001

PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES VISIT OF
PRESIDENT-ELECT OF MEXICO

July 27, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that the President-elect of the United Mexican States Vicente Fox will visit Canada on August 22 and 23.

"Canada-Mexico relations have strengthened considerably in recent years and the July 2 election of Mr. Fox provides a welcome opportunity to further expand this important bilateral partnership," said the Prime Minister. "As we make the final preparations of the agenda for the next Summit of the Americas in Quebec City next April, this visit will give us a chance to review Canada-Mexico relations and get to know one another better."

The Prime Minister will meet with President-elect Fox in Ottawa on Tuesday, August 22. The President-elect and his delegation will then travel to Toronto on Wednesday, August 23.
