August 29, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Chrétien today announced that His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will visit Ottawa September 4 - 5, 2000. The Sultan will be accompanied by Brunei’s Home Affairs Minister Pehin Dato Haji Awang Isa.

"Through our collaboration in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation–or APEC–forum, as well as our annual participation in Association of South East Asian Nations meetings, Canada and Brunei have co-operated in promoting trade and stability throughout Asia", said the Prime Minister. "I look forward to further enhancing the ties between our nations and discussing plans for this year’s APEC meeting, which the Sultan will host."

In Ottawa, His Majesty will meet with the Prime Minister and Governor General Adrienne Clarkson.
