1. The number of
family units, average and medium amounts take into account those with private
pension assets other than EPPs, RRSPs and RRIFs. The aggregate amount in
other pension assets is relatively small (about 5% of total private pension
assets) and includes such things as annuities and DPSPs. |
2. The value at
which half of all family units have lower net worth and half have higher
net worth. |
3. Family units:
economic families (a group of two or more persons who live in the same dwelling
and are related to each other by blood, marriage, common law or adoption)
and unattached individuals (a person living either alone or with others
to whom he or she is unrelated). |
4. Family in which
the person with the highest income before tax is aged 65 or over. |
5. Legally married,
common-law and same-sex couples. |
6. Legally married,
common-law and same-sex couples with a child or children (biological, adopted,
step, or foster) under the age of 18. |
7. Couples or lone
parents living with a child or children (biological, adopted, step, or foster)
aged 18 or over and/or with other relatives, but not living with a child
or children under the age of 18. Also includes related persons (e.g., siblings,
cousins) living together. |
8. Age of the individual/family
member with the highest pre-tax income. |
9. Total family
income after tax. |
10. Education level
of the individual/family member with the highest pre-tax income. |
11. Includes certificates
or diplomas from trade or vocational schools, community colleges, CEGEPs,
technical institutes and hospital schools of nursing. |
12. Includes certificate
above bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate, degrees in law, medicine,
dentistry, veterinary medicine and optometry. |
