Traveller Declaration Card – Available Online!

Canadian residents who are members of the CBSA’s Trusted Traveller programs can benefit from a convenient way of declaring goods and paying duties. Members of NEXUS, Free and Secure Trade (FAST), CANPASS Air and the Commercial Driver Registration Program (CDRP) can download a Traveller Declaration Card (TDC) available online, fill out the fields, choose to save it and print it off — further expediting the process of paying duties when entering Canada.

What is a Traveller Declaration Card?

A Traveller Declaration Card (TDC) is a form that is available to all Canadian residents who are members of the Trusted Traveller programs noted above. The TDC can be used to declare goods when returning to Canada by land or by air. It allows the traveller to declare all goods that have been purchased, received or otherwise acquired, and pay associated duties and taxes, if applicable, by simply filling out the form. Any duties or taxes owing will be collected at a later time through the credit card information provided on the traveller’s TDC.

What is the Benefit of the Online TDC?

It is important to first note that the paper booklet version of the TDC is being gradually phased out. Soon, the online version will be the only version of the TDC available, providing added benefit to our members.

Having the form on the CBSA Web site saves you time by allowing you to fill in your personal information in advance of arriving at the border. You can download, save and print your TDC, with the mandatory fields already electronically completed. Then, when you are ready to cross back into Canada, all that is left to do is complete the declaration in writing (using a black pen) or electronically, sign the printed form and drop it in the secure TDC collection box to complete your passage into Canada. The TDC boxes are conveniently located near the border services officers’ booths in the Trusted Traveller designated lanes in the land mode and near the self-serve NEXUS and CANPASS Air kiosks in the air mode.

How Can I Access the Online TDC?

Visit www.cbsa.gc.ca and go to any of the Trusted Traveller home pages (NEXUS, FAST, CANPASS Air, or CDRP). Click on the link entitled "Traveller Declaration Card (TDC) online". From there, you will be able to find information about the online version of the TDC.
