Ottawa, ON, November 5, 2010 – Today, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) provided the following statement regarding media reports on the case of a person travelling to Canada under a disguise.

As you are aware, the Privacy Act provides very strict parameters concerning what the CBSA may and may not say about a particular case. The CBSA did not officially release the report or the photo and we will not be doing so.

We can confirm the following:

  • On October 29, 2010, the CBSA intercepted and detained the traveller attempting to enter Canada under false pretences.
  • The traveller, on an Air Canada flight from Hong Kong, is currently under CBSA detention and will present before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) as is standard procedures.

There are clear processes that are followed for all persons seeking entry into Canada and we can confirm that the CBSA followed due process in accordance with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
