Fort Erie, Ontario, March 1, 2013 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced the opening of an additional NEXUS lane at the Peace Bridge border crossing located at Fort Erie, Ontario and Buffalo, New York, providing more efficient border clearance for low-risk travellers. One NEXUS lane is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven days a week, for entry into Canada. The second and additional new third lanes will be used to process NEXUS members during high-volume periods and used as regular lanes at other times.
Canada and the United States agreed on a plan to implement NEXUS technology at nine border crossings by June 2013, as part of the Canada/U.S. Action Plan on Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness (Action Plan). This third lane at the Fort Erie port of entry is the fifth NEXUS lane to officially open as part of the Action Plan commitment.
Other achievements for NEXUS to-date include:
Currently there are over 789,000 NEXUS members who expedite their travel across the Canada-U.S. border at designated land, air and marine locations.
