Amendments to the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff

1. In addition to the implementation of the Canada - Panama Free Trade Agreement announced in Customs Notice 13-005, effective April 1, 2013, the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff has been amended to reflect measures announced in the Federal Budget of Thursday, March 21, 2013. This version also reflects editorial and grammatical description changes to certain statistical suffixes, as requested by Statistics Canada, which do not alter the scope of the provisions. All changes are marked by change bars.

2. Effective April 1, 2013, tariff rates for all preferential tariff treatments have been reduced to "Free" for the following tariff items:

3. Effective April 1, 2013, changes have been made to both the English and French descriptions of the following statistical suffixes:

• 0302.11.00.10
• 0302.14.00.1X
• 0302.14.00.20
• 0302.21.00.10
• 0303.31.00.10
• 0303.31.00.20
• 0303.31.00.30
• 2401.20.90.20

4. Effective April 1, 2013, changes have been made only to the French descriptions of the following statistical suffixes:

5. All other change bars reflect amendments relating to the implementation of the Canada-Panama Free Trade Agreement.

6. An amended version of the Departmental Consolidation of the Customs Tariff, reflecting all of these changes, has been posted on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Web site.

7. For certainty regarding the tariff classification of a product, importers may request an advance ruling on tariff classification. Details on how to make such a request are found in CBSA Memorandum D11-11-3, Advance Rulings for Tariff Classification, which is found on the CBSA Web site.
