Relief for Businesses Directly Impacted by the Floods in Alberta

1. The purpose of this customs notice is to announce that the due date for the payment of the Form K84, Monthly Accounting Statement, in respect of the month of June 2013 is being altered for those businesses that have been directly affected by the recent floods in Alberta.

2. Payment for the month of June 2013 would normally have to be received by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on or before July 2, 2013, in order to ensure that late payment interest and/or penalties are not applied.

3. Due to the recent natural disaster in Alberta, the CBSA recognizes that payment by July 2, 2013, may present challenges for businesses that have been directly impacted by the flooding. In such cases, the CBSA will not apply late payment penalties or interest if the full payment due is received by July 16, 2013.

4. Should payment be received after July 16, 2013, the local CBSA office will determine, on a case-by-case basis, whether late payment penalties and/or interest will apply.

5. Should a business believe that it was wrongly assessed late payment penalties and/or interest, it can apply to the CBSA for a further review. Information on how to request a further review is available on the CBSA Web site.

6. Any questions about this relief should be sent to: Assessment-Cotisation@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca.
