Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund – Government of Canada supports modernization of two Drummondville community centres

Drummondville, Quebec, August 1, 2013 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that two Drummondville organizations have been granted financial assistance to upgrade their existing facilities.

“By funding these modernization projects of the Drummondville-Sud and Saint-Pierre community centres, the Government of Canada is fulfilling its commitment to help improve the quality of life in our communities,” said Minister Lebel.

Centre communautaire Drummondville-Sud serves for a variety of recreational, sports and educational activities. In 2012, 56,283 people visited the centre, in addition to numerous others who took part in special events and used the facility’s skating rinks. The general improvements planned for the centre are aimed at better satisfying user needs.

Centre communautaire Saint-Pierre offers a similar program of activities that draws tens of thousands of users of all ages to the facility every year. In 2012, nearly 450 volunteers and many local community groups contributed to the organization of the centre’s various activities and events. The project, which involves renovating the building’s publicly-accessible common areas, is intended to improve the quality of the community centre’s existing facilities.

Information:

This assistance, granted in the form of $207,000 in non-repayable funding, including $169,000 for Centre communautaire Drummondville-Sud and $38,000 for Centre communautaire Saint-Pierre, has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.
