Initiative to diversify the economy of regions reliant on chrysotile

Good news for the Des Sources and Des Appalaches regional county municipalities (RCMs). They can now benefit from a Government of Canada initiative to help them overcome the decline of the chrysotile industry.

With a budget of $50 million over the next seven years, the Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile aims to help communities and businesses in the Des Sources and Des Appalaches RCMs make the transition to new economic activities, particularly in the secondary and tertiary sectors.

Managed by Canada Economic Development for the Regions of Quebec through its Quebec Economic Development Program, this initiative builds on the priorities stated in the Government of Canada’s Budget 2013, including investing in communities.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), business support organizations and municipalities in these two RCMs can now learn about the eligibility criteria and preferred types of projects by consulting the page on the Canadian Initiative for the Economic Diversification of Communities Reliant on Chrysotile.
