New Brunswick individual fined for contravening the Canada Agricultural Products Act

December 3, 2009, Moncton, New Brunswick - On November 9, 2009, David Savage of Grand Falls, New Brunswick pleaded guilty in provincial Court in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, to one count of contravening the Canada Agricultural Products Act and was fined $2,000.

On or about September 26, 2008 David Savage was involved in the inter-provincial marketing of potatoes from Quebec to New Brunswick that were not accompanied by ministerial exemption documents or one of the documents referred in subsection 29(2) of the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Regulations, contrary to subsection 17(a) of the Canada Agricultural Products Act.

Section 17(a) of the Canada Agricultural Products Act states:

17. No person shall, except in accordance with this Act or the regulations, (a) market an agricultural product in import, export or inter-provincial trade.
