Cargill Grain Limited Pleads Guilty to Violating One Count of the Feeds Act

CALGARY, June 9, 2011: On March 30, 2011 in Saskatchewan Provincial Court, Cargill Grain Limited pled guilty to one count of violating section 3(1) of the Feeds Act and section 14(b) of the Feeds Regulations.

The Honourable Judge L.A. Matsalla imposed a fine of $1,000 and a $400 victim surcharge against the Corporation.

A Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) investigation determined that the Corporation had made a production error on February 13, 2008 which resulted in the addition of Tylosin Phosphate to dairy ration feeds. Tylosin Phosphate is not approved for use in dairy ration feeds in Canada.

The CFIA enforces federal legislation including the Feeds Act and its Regulations. The CFIA safeguards food, animals and plants, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment and economy, and access to international markets.
