Canada Education Savings Grant
The Canada Education Savings Grant (CEDG) is a new federal government program designed to help Canadians save for their
children's post-secondary education. A full listing of the rules and regulations of the program are available at the Web site, but
in summary, the Government of Canada will contribute 20 percent on contributions made to a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)
to an annual maximum of $400/child/year or a lifetime maximum of $7,200. The site includes detailed information on the CEDG, what
RESPs are and how they're set up, as well as pointers towards tools to help people calculate how much they'll need to save to send a
child to college or university.

Canada Millenium Scholarship Foundation
The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation is a private, autonomous organization created by the federal government in 1998 to
reduce the debt load of Canadian students and to facilitate access to post-secondary education. This easily navigated site, provides
background information on the Foundation's history and activities and detailed information on its scholarship programs. Eligibility
criteria, selection information, application guidelines, and FAQs are provides for students interested in applying for scholarships.
Discussion boards and links to student aid information by Province are also provided.

Canada Student Loans Program
Hosted by Human Resources Development Canada, this Web site promotes accessibility to the Canada Student Loans program.
Corporate level information is provided in the form of the program's history, policies and statistics. CSLP publications are
accessible through this site. Links to the CanLearn Interactive (http://www.canlearn.ca/) and the National Student Loans Service
Centre (http://www.canlearn.ca/nslsc/) provide access to the actual details students need to apply, obtain and repay loans. Other
related links such as the Provincial and Territorial Student Assistance Offices are provided.

Canada's SchoolNet
Canada's SchoolNet is a collaborative initiative with provincial and territorial govenments, the educational community and the
private sector designed to promote the effective use of information technology amongst Canadians by helping schools and libraries
connect to the Internet. Through its partnerships SchoolNet champions lifelong learning and the creation of world-class educational
resources through information and communication technology (ICT) and partnerships. The SchoolNet Web site showcases an exciting set
of innovative, award winning Internet-based educational resources and services that provide teachers and learners alike with a
single platform from which to access services related to connecting to the Internet and reliable resources on the Internet once
connected. Access to high-speed Internet service for schools and libraries, and creating more and better e-learning content are two
current priorities. To date, SchoolNet Web site links to more than 5,000 teacher approved learning resources, making it easier for
Canadian teachers and students to access an immense source of online resources.

Canadian Centre for Management Development (CCMD)
The Canadian Centre for Management Development (CCMD) has a mandate to support present and future public service managers
through learning programs and courses, learning events, strategic research and other leadership development activities. CCMD
programs are offered across Canada for federal public service managers at all levels, in all departments in all regions. Several
Learning Events are provided in the forms of Armchair Discussions, Conferences, Workshops, Special Events and Thematic Series.
Selected free CCMD authored publications are available on various management related topics such as innovation and public confidence
in government services.

Canadian Educational Policy and Administration Network (CEPAN)
The Canadian Educational Policy and Administration Network (CEPAN) is a comprehensive on-line database and networking forum
promoting informed decision making for elementary and secondary education in Canada. CEPAN began development in July, 1997. CEPAN is
designed as a comprehensive resource site for information about elementary and secondary educational policy and administration
issues in Canada. CEPAN provides the Canadian educational community with an organized forum to access information, share ideas and
discuss elementary and secondary education issues. Resources offered include links to information on a wide range of topics, from
School Governance to School Safety to Employment Opportunities to Dropout Prevention. Funding and support has been provided by
Industry Canada's SchoolNet initiative.

Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials
The Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC) collects, organizes, and distributes information on
credential assessment procedures and acts as a referral service both for foreign-trained individuals wishing to study or work in
Canada and for Canadians wishing to study outside Canada. CICIC was established after Canada ratified the UNESCO Convention on the
Recognition of Studies, Diplomas and Degrees concerning Higher Education in the States belonging to the Europe Region, in 1990, to
assist Canada in carrying out its obligations under the terms of this convention. The convention promotes international mobility by
advocating wider recognition of higher education and professional qualifications.

CanLearn Interactive
CanLearn Interactive is a one-stop resource providing information, products and services to help Canadians decide what and where
to study and how to cover the costs. CanLearn delivers on-line interactive planning tools to help Canadians explore career
possibilities, identify learning requirements, develop learning strategies, and create the financial plans to achieve their goals.
It ensures access to information about lifelong learning opportunities, career options, and sources of financial support available
to Canadian learners. CanLearn Interactive is an initiative of Human Resources Development Canada, and is governed through the
participation of all provinces, territories and over 25 Canadian learning and career development organizations.

Career Awareness
Human Resources Development Canada, in partnership with related provincial government departments across Canada and a number of
non-Government organizations, has developed this site aimed at providing job seekers with clear, reliable and up-to-date career
planning information. In addition, this Web site offers relevant links to various career development resources and to help job
seekers make wiser career choices. According to the site home page, "if you are planning your career or helping others plan their
career, then this site will help you think about your future, show you the importance of getting an education, as well as provide
you with up-to-date information on the world of work". A "What's New" section, available at

Community Access Program (CAP)
The Community Access Program (CAP) is a Government of Canada initiative, administered by Industry Canada, that aims to provide
Canadians with affordable public access to the Internet and the skills they need to use it effectively. CAP started out in 1994 in
rural communities with populations of up to 50 000 persons; the program is being expanded to larger communities. It is an essential
part of the Government of Canada's Connecting Canadians initiative, whose goal is to make Canada the most connected nation in the
world. The "About CAP" section provides a description of the Program, detailed information for those wanting to apply to become CAP
sites, CAP success stories, and information regarding CAP and accessibility. "CAP Communities" is an on-line directory of CAP sites
arranged by province or territory. "Connecting Canadians" provides information about this Government of Canada initiative to make
Canada the most connected nation in the world. In this section there are links to Web sites of other Canada on-line programs and
other related Government of Canada programs. There are links to the Minister's speeches and news releases on the Connecting
Canadians initiative Web site. The "Useful Links" section is meant to help CAP administrators and users locate useful information
resources. "What's New" in CAP and contact information is provided. There is a link to the search engine for all Government of
Canada Web sites. There is a link to the Canada Site which is the main Government of Canada Web site.

Computers for Schools
"Computers for Schools is a federal government-led initiative co-founded in 1993 with the Telephone Pioneers, the largest
industry related volunteer organization in the world. Computers for Schools helps young Canadians gain greater access to computer
technology in a learning environment so they can acquire the computer skills to succeed in a technology driven economy and society.
Computers for Schools also provides young Canadians with hands on experience in computer repair at its network of workshops located
across the nation. Computers for Schools is part of the government's Connecting Canadians agenda to make Canada one of the most
connected nations in the world to the inter net and its citizens among the most active users of information technology." Information
is available on the site about how to donate computers and how to apply for computers.

Council of Ministers of Education, Canada
The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) describes itself as the national voice for education in Canada. Through
CMEC provincial and territorial ministers responsible for education can consult and act on matters of mutual interest. CMEC is the
instrument through which these ministers consult and cooperate with national education organizations and the federal government.
Pan-Canadian strategies include: assessing performance of 13 and 16 year old students in mathematics, reading, writing and science;
collecting statistical information on the performance of our education systems; fostering exchange of information among provinces
and territories on educational topics; producing periodic reports on various aspects of education in Canada and fostering mobility
of postsecondary students through credit transfer agreements. To promote the study of Canada's official languages, CMEC, in
cooperation with the provinces and territories, administer the Official Language Monitor Program and the Summer Language Bursary

International Education and Academic Relations
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has brought together a listing of educational resources and events of
interest to Canadians studying abroad and non-Canadians wishing to study in Canada. Included are links to awards and exchange
programs (including information on The Fulbright Program, Canada/China Scholars Exchange Program, the Commonwealth Scholarship and
Fellowship Plan and others), and some sources to which enrolled students may wish to turn for funding from either the Government of
Canada or foreign governments. Details on the Canadian Studies Program is provided, as are links to the Association of Canadian
Community Colleges, the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, information on immigration for foreign students
traveling to Canada and details on international recognition of academic qualifications.

Interprovincial Standards (Red Seal) Program
The Apprenticeship and the Interprovincial Standards "Red Seal" Program encourages standardization of provincial and territorial
apprenticeship training and certification programs. Through the program, apprentices who have completed their training and certified
journeypersons, are able to obtain a "Red Seal" endorsement on their certificates allows them to practice the trade in any province
or territory in Canada where the trade is designated without having to write further examinations. The endorsement includes passing
an Interprovincial Standards Examination. The Web site provides access to lists of apprenticeship programs covered under the "Red
Seal", offices for Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship, and published National Occupational Analyses (NOA) for Red Seal
trades. The "Ellis Chart" is a comparative chart of apprentice training programs across Canada is also accessible. Current events
and newsletters regarding this program are also provided but not terribly current (August 2002).

National Literacy Secretariat (NLS)
The National Literacy Secretariat (NLS) works to promote literacy as an essential component of a learning society and to make
Canada's social, economic and political life more accessible to people with weak literacy skills. It works in partnership with the
provinces and territories, other government departments, business and labour, the voluntary sector and non-governmental
organizations to build capacity for literacy opportunities across Canada to develop and improve the ever-expanding literacy skills
needed to function at work, at home and in the community, and to support the development and dissemination of information on
literacy issues. The NLS offers several free publications off of their Web site including research on both child and adult literacy
as well as publicity posters.

Office of Learning Technologies (OLT)
Hosted by Human Resources Development Canada, the Office of Learning Technologies (OLT) promotes the effective use of learning
technologies, supports assessment, research and testing related to the use of learning technologies, and increases the availability
and sharing of knowledge and quality information about learning technologies to promote innovative lifelong learning opportunities
for Canadians. This fully-searchable Web site features an extensive collection of OLT-funded publications and project reports,
annotated resources for developers, guides for distance learners and resources to assist practitioners in implementing educational
technologies. Detailed information on key programs such as the Community Learning Networks Initiative (CLN), New Practices in
Learning Technologies Initiative (NPLT) and Learning Technologies for the Workplace (LTW) is also provided.

Programme for International Student Assessment
The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a project of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) designed to provide policy-oriented international indicators of the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students
concentrating on assessing Reading, Mathematics and Science literacy levels. In Canada, PISA is carried out through Human Resources
Development Canada, Council of Ministers of Education Canada, Statistics Canada and provincial ministries and departments of
education and labour. On the Web site, indepth explanations of the testing done in the three subject areas is given with related
subject links. Results from the Reading tests given in 2000 are available in PDF and HTML formats. A link to the OECD PISA site
(http://www.pisa.oecd.org/) is provided on several pages indicating that more indepth information can be found there. This site also
provides links to YITS (The Youth in Transition Survey), a new Canadian longitudinal survey that collects information about major
transitions in young people's lives, particularly those between education, training and work. The program, results, partners and
contacts mirror the information provided for PISA.

Student Connection Program
This Industry Canada site provides information about the Student Connection Program, part of the Youth Employment Strategy,
which offers businesses technology training programs "tailored" to their business needs. The site provides information for youth
wanting to become Student Business Advisors as well as for businesses interested in acquiring the technology training. Several
sections were under construction when the site was viewed. "Business links" includes 3 categories of Web resources including
"Business Toolbox", "Global Market", and "Internet Classroom".
