This English, searchable Web site provides information about the Town of Amherst and its citizens. Visitors to the site can read
a welcome message from the Mayor, find out about the town's history, its councillors, and town services like police and fire. The
site has information on the town's demographic characteristics, reasons it is a good place for economic development, and provides
access to a business directory, a map of its industrial park, and on-line permit forms.

This is a frames-structured site with many photos of the region. Clicking on the county logo will take you to a personalized
introduction page. There is a section called "County Happenings" which describes recent local events. An electoral map for the
county is provided with a list of communities by district. There are pictures and contact information for the Annapolis County
Council, a list of county staff and members of council, boards, committees and commissions. A breakdown of how taxes are spent is
indicated in a chart. Under "Public Works" there is a feature on the Bear River Solar Aquatics Wastewater Facility and a link to the
Valley Waste Resource Management site. There is also information on county planning and heritage and a section on recreation
services for the county which includes park, trail and canoeing information as well as a calendar of community events.

This English language Web site is a good starting point for information on communities in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.
There are links to Web sites describing individual Valley communities. Valleyweb.com has whale watching information, an online
business directory, listings of automotive services in the Valley, festivals and events throughout the Valley, and local real estate
agents. There is a picture gallery of views of the Valley. Links to other sites include the Internet Guide to Arts and Crafts in

Barrington, the "lobster capital of Canada," is on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Councillors for the seven local districts are
profiled along with their contact information. The schedule of upcoming council meetings and minutes of previous meetings dating
back to May 1999 are available. Other municipal information includes a directory of municipal office staff, hours of operation, tax
rates and the municipality's waste collection schedule. The recreation page displays local attractions such as the Seal Island

"apple capital of Nova Scotia." The current happenings page consists of summaries of town events such as 2000/01 operating and

mayor can be found on the council page along with complete contact information for the mayor and the councillors. The town's

Located in the Annapolis Valley, Bridgetown was incorporated over one hundred years ago. This site has information on the town's
services: emergency services, visitor information centre, banking, post office, the library, medical offices and other facilities.
The sight seeing section gives an overview of local parks, tours and other places of interest. A section on special events provides
information on prominent town events such as Dalhousie Days, the Bridgetown Ciderfest and the Tupperville Annual Ice Cream Festival.
Regular activities and recreation programs are described under 'sports and activities': golfing, cycling, bike and canoe tours,
fishing, ice skating and hockey. Pages on history, museums and churches help the site to express the town's culture and traditions.
The Bridgetown Waterfront Development site and the Bridgetown Business Society site are both housed on the town's Web site.

This is a bilingual Web site which represents the fact that Clare is predominantly inhabited by Acadians and that the town
conducts its business in both French and English. Municipal government information includes a directory of the councillors with
their contact information, and a listing of the town staff and departments with most including email addresses. There are pages on
recreational activities, economic development and local organizations. Also present on the site is the 'official tourism site' for
Clare. This site has extensive information on accommodations, festivals, events, eco-tourism, museums, lighthouses, restaurants,

provides information about Digby, Nova Scotia. Visitors can find out about local ferry schedules, things to do in the area like

boards, committees and commissions. Also available are: council agendas and minutes, council meeting and public hearing schedules.
There is information on tourism, recreational and cultural programs, planning, development and an education section with information
on the Halifax Regional School Board. An environment section has information on issues such as solid waste management and garbage

This is the official Web site for the Town of Hantsport. There is a brief history of the area. It is the home of William Hall,
Canada's first Nova Scotian and black recipient of the Victoria Cross. Hantsport was also one of the world's largest wooden
shipbuilding ports. There is a description of the area's major industries, its attractions and a map of its location. There is an

The Inverness site opens with a welcome message from the warden. Recycling information, garbage collection routes, full text of
the municipality's by-laws, Council meeting schedules, the Council agenda and a telephone directory can be found here. There is
subscription information for "Partici-Paper" a magazine that is published six times a year and is a service of the Municipality of
Inverness. A list of the county's heritage properties and museums, complete with individual photographs and descriptions, is shown.
Councilor biographies and information on local festivals and events are provided. There are online forms to apply to register a
heritage property, an affidavit form for tax exemption, a Heritage Advisory Committee evaluation form and a feedback form for the

Kings County has a comprehensive site which includes a list of services for the County that can be viewed alphabetically or
located through a search engine. "Services" include permits, emergency measures, occupational health and safety, subdivision
approvals, zoning, property taxes and much more. There is a phone directory of councillors and administration, councilor profiles,
an electoral district map and copies of council meeting minutes. County by-laws are available in full text. Tenders, job

Lunenburg was established in 1753 and is the "home of the Bluenose" as well as a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is a
historical overview of the town as well as a section devoted to the film industry (several movies have been filmed on location in
Lunenburg). The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic is located in Lunenburg and Lunenburg is frequently a port of call for "Tall
Ships." There are lists of municipal services, restaurants, shops, community volunteer organizations, healthcare services and
recreational activities and special attractions. This site is difficult to navigate, but offers a lot of information for tourists.

Local business is described in the business and finance section. Recreation New Glasgow is a sub-committee of the town council and

This english language Web site provides information about North Queens, located in the northern part of Queens County, Nova
Scotia, Canada. North Queens consists of several small communities stretching from Pleasant River to Kempt. It is also home to one
of the most interesting tourist destinations in Canada, Kejimkujik National Park. Located just outside the picturesque communities
of Maitland Bridge and Kempt, Kejimkujik has beautiful campsites, and contains many rare species of wildlife within its boundaries.
The Attractions section has information on local area attractions. The Heritage and Genealogy section provides information on the
history and genealogy publications by the North Queens Heritage Society. There is an on-line directory of local services. The
Communities section has description of the communities in North Queens.

The Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities was established in 1906 to protect the interests of Nova Scotia municipalities. This
site gives the history of the union along with a list of officers, executive members, committees, committee activities and copies of
the 'president's message' dating back to 1996. The union's mandate, by-laws, membership directory and affiliate agencies are
provided. There is a list of 1999 resolutions and a document presented to the Standing Committee on Finance called 'Consideration
for the 2000 Federal Budget'. The 'Municipal-Provincial Roles and Responsibilities Review' document and the Municipal Charter and
appendices can be downloaded as PDF files. Issues of 'Municipal Open Line', the union's monthly newsletter, are available dating
back to 1997. At the bottom of each Web page is a link to an online discussion forum for union issues and concerns of interest to
Nova Scotia municipal government. The 'special services to members' page outlines benefits of being a member of the union such as

information are restaurants, accommodations, historic sites and a map. The relocator pages offer a profile of the community,
information on utilities, health care, real estate agencies, emergency services, a comprehensive listing of community groups, and a
business directory organized alphabetically and by category. The 'region' portion of the site contains a history of the
municipality, information on the council, departments, solid waste management, economic sectors, languages and population. There is
a video tour of the region, links to related sites and a feedback form. This site is easy to navigate and provides several methods
to find information.

This searchable site has a page called "Local Services" which provides information on the fire department, RCMP, library, clubs,
medical offices, the hospital and local politicians. Upcoming events noted include dances, book clubs, yard sales, dinners and "Read
by the Sea" - River John's first literary festival featuring such authors as Sheree Fitch, Alistair MacLeod, Sheldon Currie and
Maureen Hull. A map of River John's location is displayed to assist visitors as well as information on local beaches and parks. An

heritage and the parks and recreation committee. The town's departments including clerk/treasurer, administration and public works,

the public library, police station and fire station - and the town's by-laws. The Truro Town Council has adopted the management
system of the Committee of the Whole. The council page lists the mayor and current councillors. Statistical information provided

The final draft of Victoria County's strategic plan, which includes such topics as community development, assets and concerns, a
sector review, governance and finance and an action plan is prominent along with detailed information on the local government. This
includes a list of councillors, management staff, a telephone directory, council minutes, and information on various departments,
recycling and composting. InfoCAP - a creation of the Victoria County CAP Sites Association - provides "access to services from
municipal, provincial, and federal governments, to information on local news about community events and resources, and to a
collection of valuable reference links". The Community Guide displays information by topics such as cultural and development groups,
sport organizations, festivals and events, the Chamber of Commerce and schools. There is also the Visitor's Guide with links to
information on local outdoor activities, accommodations, maps, golf and camping. The new section of community resources is intended
for Victoria County residents and includes tourism, technology, career planning, starting a new business, health, the fishery,
environment and agriculture.
