Minutes

Steering Committee

June 17, 1998

Minutes

Five members of the Steering Committee (Pam Bjornson, Ernie Ingles (Chair), Carole Moore, Marianne Scott and John Teskey) met in Victoria on June 17. Claude Bonnelly and Aldyth Holmes sent their regrets. Gwynneth Evans acted as secretary.

Announcements

CANARIE and CIDL will sign a memorandum of agreement during the summer of 1998. A. Bjerring and E. Ingles will meet to discuss what actions will follow from the agreement.

Members of CIDL will be sent a copy of the bylaws for their approval in the late summer.

The Steering Committee agreed that libraries joining CIDL after July 1 of a calendar year would only pay fees in the following year. Two new members, Acadia University and the library of the International Development Research Centre, have joined in July 1998.

The Working Group on Creation and Production Issues, chaired by Claude Bonnelly, has circulated its minutes.

The Working Group on Organization and Access Issues, chaired by John Teskey, will be discussing the issues related to "The Canadian Local Histories Proposal" (see below).

The secretariat has developed a draft proposal entitled "The Canadian Local Histories Proposal" for which funding will be sought. Its purpose is to provide CIDL members with the opportunity to contribute to a Canadian Digital Collection, using diverse local/regional collections in many formats and following best practices and proven methodologies.

The Steering Committee requested that the secretariat send one version of the proposal to the Canadian Millennium Partnership Program. Members will be advised of its content and conditions as soon as CIDL hears from the Partnership Program.
