Helen Sawyer Hogg
(1905-1993), received many national and international honours, including Companion of the
Order of Canada, recognizing her contributions to research in, and to the public
understanding of, astronomy. She was a leading world authority on globular star clusters.
Dr. Hogg brought
astronomy to the classroom at the University of Toronto between 1936 and 1976, and to the
public for 30 years in a weekly column in the Toronto Star.
