Thomas DArcy
McGee (1825-1868) was an Irish radical who established a reputation as a journalist,
politician, poet and historian.
A man of vision and
eloquence, McGee championed the cause of Canadian nationalism, the federation of British
North America, a transcontinental railway, the settlement of the West and the development
of a distinctive literature.
He was assassinated
on Ottawas Sparks Street a week before his 43rd birthday.
