Pauline Vanier at "L'Arche", 1973, by John Reeves

Pauline Vanier (1887-1991) was the wife of Georges Vanier, Governor General of Canada from 1959 until his death in 1967. This spiritual and close-knit couple championed the disadvantaged, youth and the family. The Vaniers travelled together throughout Canada during his tenure, always encouraging young people to work hard and achieve excellence.

This photograph, taken in 1973, shows Madame Vanier at "L'Arche," a community for disadvantaged adults, founded by their son Jean Vanier at Trosly-Breuil, France. Recognition of their love for humanity and deep compassion recently led to the Vaniers' nomination for beatification in the Roman Catholic Church.
