In this excerpt, Florence Bird recalls some of the presentations made at the Status of Women Commission hearings in Vancouver and Edmonton. Bird was the Chair of the Commission. The subjects here range from the plight of immigrant women and the generation gap to the problems faced by single mothers. The Commission's report, tabled in 1970, contained 170 recommendations dealing with issues such as day care, equal pay for work of equal value and the Indian Act.
