This fire insurance plan of the Ogilvie Flour Mills in Winnipeg is a fine example of specialized urban cartography. As industry grew, such plans met the needs of insurance companies who needed to know the characteristics of the buildings to be insured. The Goad Company surveyed more than 1,300 urban communities in Canada. The plans are valuable sources for information about our architectural, urban, industrial and demographic history. The National Archives holds over 30,000 sheets of fire insurance plans for more than 1,000 communities across Canada. NMC 10577 |
