Oscar Peterson, 1984, by Harry E. Palmer

Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson (born 1925) has had an international career since 1949. He has recorded over 80 solo albums in the United States and Germany, and several more as pianist for Lester Young, Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins and other performers. His approach to jazz follows the traditional 1940s style, of which he has become a classic example, whether performing as a soloist or with a trio.

Since 1987, the National Archives has been acquiring Harry Palmer's portraits of the men and women who have been made Companions of the Order of Canada.
