Jacques Plante, Shawinigan, Quebec, ca. 1944

Legendary goaltender Jacques Plante (1929-1986) began playing goal for a factory team in Shawinigan. By 1954, he was the Montréal Canadiens regular goalie. He was awarded the Vezina Trophy seven times between 1956 and 1969, and won the Hart Trophy, awarded to the league's most valuable player, in 1962. During his career, he played for the New York Rangers, the Toronto Maple Leafs and retired from play with the Edmonton Oilers in 1975.

After being hit in the face with a puck in 1959, Plante was the first National Hockey League goaltender to wear a face mask on a regular basis. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.
