Marshall McLuhan (1911-1980) was an internationally known communications theorist and coiner of two now famous phrases, the "global village" and "the medium is the message." Professor of English at the University of Toronto, he studied and wrote about the changes in perception brought about by the growth of the electronic media. He believed that the form information takes is basic to the way we perceive and interpret that information. The National Archives acquired Yousuf Karsh's photographic production from the opening of his Ottawa studio in 1932 until March 30, 1987. It includes over 250,000 black-and-white negatives, about 50,000 prints and some 170,000 colour transparencies. PA-164279 |
