Thomas Kirkpatrick, a lawyer and politician, was called to the Bar of Upper Canada in 1828. He practised in Kingston, Ontario and was Mayor of Kingston in 1838-1839. He was elected to the House of Commons for Frontenac in Confederation year 1867 and served until his death in 1870.

In this daguerreotype,* from left to right are Thomas Kirkpatrick, a son (George Airey?), a daughter (Helen Lydia?) and Mrs. Kirkpatrick, born Helen Fisher.

*An early photographic process invented in France by Louis Daguerre in 1839, in which the impression was taken upon a silver plate sensitized by iodine and then developed by a vapour of mercury.
