Gregorian chant manuscript, Sainte-Foy, ca. 1756-1791

This manuscript from the parish of Sainte-Foy near Québec City contains music to be sung at vespers, the evening worship service. It belonged to François-Xavier Borel, the parish priest of Sainte-Foy from 1756 to 1774 and from 1786 to 1791.

It is believed that this chant of the Holy Family Mass was composed by Charles-Amador Martin (1648-1711), the second priest born in Canada. If so, it may be the oldest Canadian musical composition still in existence.
