Québec Conference resolutions, 1864, doodles by Sir John A. Macdonald

Following the Charlottetown Conference, the representatives of the three Maritime colonies and the Province of Canada (Quebec and Ontario) agreed on a proposal for a British North American federation. In October 1864, the delegates met again in Québec City to draw up a more detailed plan for union.

Although the 72 resolutions of the Québec Conference [the document shown here is the title page] were adopted only by the Province of Canada, they formed the legislative basis of the British North America Act, the foundation for the creation of the Dominion of Canada in 1967.

One can assume from the doodles on Sir John A.'s copy that certain proceedings must have been very lengthy.
