Mon Amour, Jacques Plante, ca. 1980

Few people, aside from his wife, knew that goalie Jacques Plante wrote poetry. In this poem, Mon Amour [My Love], written to his wife on her birthday, he says how a day spent with her passes so quickly and that without her it seems an eternity. Sports hero that he was, he writes that he lives only to love her.

Plante (1929-1986) joined the Montréal Canadiens in 1953. During his ten years as the Canadiens' goalkeeper, the team won the Stanley Cup six times. Plante received the Vezina Trophy seven times between 1956 and 1969, and was awarded the Hart Trophy in 1962. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1978.
