At the turn of the last century, Canadian cities and towns followed the North American trend of producing panoramic maps, more commonly called bird's eye views. These illustrations, representing cities from an aerial viewpoint, were a remarkable achievement in the days before airplanes. The creator of this view of Dawson first had to decide the perspective or angle from which to present it; he then had to go all around town sketching each building, the trees and other significant features. The Archives holds more than 200 bird's eye views of Canadian cities and towns. NMC 21044 |
