A Map Exhibiting all the New Discoveries in the Interior Parts of North America by A. Arrowsmith, 1802

This map (first edition in 1795, last edition in 1850) was the first to give a detailed view of the western and northern parts of the continent. It contains information reported by recent expeditions to Canada.

It was the fierce competition between the Hudson Bay Company and the Northwest Company for the control of the fur trade that drew explorers and adventurers to the North, West, Athabaska, across the Rockies and, finally, to the Pacific coast.

The maps of Aaron Arrowsmith (1750-1823), English cartographer and geographer, are among the best of the period.
