Picture yourself as a young child, without parents, travelling to a new country where you will live with and work for strangers. Between 1868 and 1929, approximately 90,000 children from Great Britain were sent to Canada, many from Dr. Barnardo's homes in the poor East End of London. These orphans, known as "home children," were employed as farm workers or as domestics in central Canada and, sadly, often mistreated. PA-041785 |
