Critics place Norman McLaren (1914-1987) among the first rank of film animators in the world. Joining the National Film Board in 1941, he explored a variety of animation techniques, including painting on film, scratching directly on film, and paper cut-outs. His award-winning films, including Begone Dull Care, Neighbours, Blinkity-Blank and Pas de Deux, are celebrated for breaking new ground. The Archives has more than 400,000 photographs and 2,400 films produced by the National Film Board. Gift of Betty Hyde Oil on canvas C-145092 |
