As members of the Canadian infantry during the Second World War, the comedy team of John Wayne and Frank Shuster wrote and performed a comic review for The Army Show which toured in Canada and Europe. Back home after the war, they were the first comedians to gain a national radio and television audience. The Wayne and Shuster Show began on CBC Radio in 1946 and moved to television in 1954. Wayne and Shuster appeared on the popular Ed Sullivan Show a record 67 times. The National Archives acquired the Frank Shuster Fonds in 1995. It contains radio and television scripts, contracts, correspondence, speeches and awards. PA-152118 |
