Dr. Stompin' Tom Connors, 1973-1978, by Robert Taillefer

Stompin' Tom Connors, singer-songwriter, guitarist, Canadian nationalist and country music legend, was born in Saint John, New Brunswick in 1936. He began his singing career at the Maple Leaf Hotel in Sudbury in 1964 when he found himself broke. His trademark, the pounding foot, was first inspired by the need to be heard in the noisy tavern. His success soon led to radio and records.

Composer of more than 300 songs, his 45 albums have sold close to four million copies. He has won six Juno awards as Male Country Singer of the Year and four East Coast Music Awards. In 2000, he received an honorary doctor of law degree at the University of Toronto and a Governor General's Performing Arts Award.
