John Lennon and Yoko Ono at their "bed-in" for Peace, Montreal, May 1969

During their week-long bed-in at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, the former Beatle and his wife recorded their anthem Give Peace a Chance. Credited to the Plastic Ono Band, it became a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was assassinated by a crazed fan outside his residence in New York City. Even 20 years later, fans still gather on the anniversary of his death to pay homage in Strawberry Fields, a section of New York's Central Park dedicated to his memory.
